The Whole Kit and Kaboodle ~ Out of Control

December is not quite turning out how I had planned.  I had visions of crafty DIY Christmas projects, about twenty new cookie and candy recipes to try, Christmas movies in the evenings, presents bought, wrapped, and under the tree…in other words, I planned on having Christmas under control.  That was probably a great invitation for out of control to come and find me.

Recently, I blogged about our car troubles.  Caleb ended up being a genius and fixing it, thereby saving us over $3,000.  Frugality runs rampant in our household, thankfully!

This week our other car decided to have the exact same problem.  We broke down at my parent’s house on Saturday so they let us drive their car home that night.  Sunday morning we drove back so that Caleb could start working on the car.  Did I mention the car is outside and it decided to start snowing?  Yes, first snow of the year happened the day Caleb HAD to work on our car.  Our wonderful friends, Shannon and Michael drove up so that Michael could help Caleb.  Shannon and I went Christmas shopping.  Make lemonade out of lemons, right?  The tough men made it over 5 hours in the freezing cold before they had enough, so we called it a night.

Monday, Caleb and I drove BACK to my parent’s house (it is an hour both ways) so Caleb could “wrap it up.”  If only our words could be made reality.  Of course, as out of control would have it, he hit all kinds of unforeseeable problems.  In 20 degree weather, outside. At this point, I am very thankful for that Marine ROTC training Caleb did at seventeen, he’s a pretty tough guy.

Today is Tuesday and our car still is not running.  Our other wonderful friend, Matt will be helping Caleb “wrap it up” today.  Thankfully, he is actually a mechanic, which could help this endeavor greatly!  The lesson of this week is that we have some great friends!  It is wonderful having people that are willing to stand in the gap for you.

Needless to say, my house isn’t exactly a Christmas wonderland right now.  Caleb thought it would be funny last night to hide under all of the laundry on our bed and jump out.  There is THAT much laundry.

"But I'm not abandoned. The Father is with me. I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world." John 16:32-33

I hope your December is going marvelously and hopefully you’re staying a little warmer than Caleb!

  1. Bummer.

I feel your pain, though. My car is snowed in, I've been sick most of December, and I didn't even get a tree.

Glad we got to see you before it died. Good luck!
