Summer Reading

I love reading . . . I find it to be so much more inspiring than watching television and it's a wonderful way to clear your mind and enjoy another world.  I haven't read much lately, besides a devotional or two and a Nicholas Sparks book. I need some suggestions.   Fiction only please, I have my own reality.

What books would you love to recommend?

What books are you planning to read this summer?

  1. Currently reading short stories by Elizabeth Berg and Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver. If you want fiction that's realistic, I'd suggest anything by Berg - she has several novels. If you want fiction with a bit of mystery and edge, then Water for Elephants. If you want light-hearted fiction, then the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley.

  2. If you haven't yet (though, with Lauren on hand, it's very likely that you have!), then you should read 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, and 'Beauty' by Robin McKinley. The first is fiction, with a sort of historical shadow, the second is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

Also, if you have any interest in mysteries, my favorites are 'The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club' and 'Murder Must Advertise' by Dorothy Sayers; and 'The Body in the Library' and 'Murder on the Orient Express' by Agatha Christie.

    Happy reading!

  3. NPR has some good book reviews. I picked up Room based on their review, and I think it's interesting so far.

The Dome was dark but fascinating.

I'm reading basically everything by Ina May Gaskin.

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle is a good one by Barbara Kingsolver.
